“The heart is more deceitful than all else. And is desperately sick; who can understand it? I the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.” Jeremiah 17: 9 & 10
It is so easy as we minister with kids to get caught up in activity and thus feel good about ourselves. God warns us here that as Christians we will be judged, not on our activity but on the results of what we do.
What types of results do you hope for?
Forty years from now I want to see Christ-changed, hope-filled, productive adults. A child going from D’s and F’s to B’s and A’s while good isn’t enough for me. I hope it isn’t enough for you either. That doesn’t tell me who he is going to be when he is 40.
I know and understand that it is important that we work with each kid as an individual; that we look at who he is physically, socially, spiritually, emotionally and mentally. It is vital that we be building quality relationships with his Primary Nurturers.
If as we work with a kid we leave out even one of these parts of who he is it lessens the opportunity for him to become a Christ-changed, hope-filled, productive adult.
