What to do with Summer Sundays is an oft asked question.
Children’s ministry volunteers who have poured into the lives of kids for nine months can certainly use some time off. They then come back in the fall excited to get back with it.
Kids too love the change.
Super Sundays are a special Sunday A.M. experience for children entering grades 2-7. Super Sundays run through the summer months when kids are out of school, or traditionally would have been out of school.
It is an opportunity for kids to have exciting opportunities to discover from adults in our family of families how they use the gifts and talents God has given them. It is an opportunity for kids to creatively discover more about God’s Word.
The elementary kids are offered electives for the summer.
The electives are taught by the adults in the local body of Christ; either a hobby, sport or occupation with which the kids can have a hands-on experience. (A great opportunity to get adults involved with kids who normally would never serve children.)
Some experiences kids have had in the past: an engineer taught the kids how to build a bridge out of popsicle sticks (it held a five pound weight), a cooking class, dough art, first aid, tying fish hooks, grooming a horse, playing volleyball, flower arranging.
What skills do the adults in your church have?
While the kids love the fun hands-on experience we also want them to learn how the adults use their gift or talent to the glory of God. The goals of Super Sundays are:
- Provide an opportunity for kids to grow closer to Jesus Christ.
- Challenge the kids each Sunday to grow in their knowledge of God’s Word.
- Create an atmosphere where significant relationships can be built between children and adults.
The Presenters commit to one Sunday, both services during the summer.
There are also summer counselors who work with the kids on an every Sunday basis who will be in the room or out on the field with the presenters. They have no preparation – they are crowd control and relationship builders. They serve with the same children each Sunday.
