Church Based After School Programs: Creating Center Standards

It is important that the kids know what is expected of them!

Better yet is if they are the ones that create what will be expected of them.

If every kid gets to be a part of putting together the standards they are going to be more apt to follow them.

CreatingMinistryStandards  This PDF is a lesson you can use with the kids to set up the Standards for your center.

  • Always have the staff talk through what they will be doing.
  • Make sure they are equipped to brainstorm with the kids.
This is a great opportunity for the kids to think critically.
It is also an opportunity for them to discover that they are capable of setting standards for themselves that work, standards that bring order to their lives.
Have fun.
I would sure love to hear how it works out for you.

  1. You are so right. One of the first things I tell new children’s ministry teachers is that they need to make sure that their students understand what’s expected of them. Otherwise, how will they know how to behave? You make a wonderful point that “rules” and “standards” work better when the kids have a hand in creating them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
